Artlink is pleased to announce the ArtistsAZ Selection Call for The 38th Annual Governor’s Arts Awards!

Project: The 38th Annual Governor’s Arts Awards Call for Art
Budget: $400 Artist Honorarium to each artist contributing an award
Selection: Up to 10 artists with existing works that fit the parameters below

Friday, January 11 – Thursday, January 31, 2019 11:59 p.m. (local Arizona time).

Since 1981, the Governor’s Arts Awards have recognized more than 200 distinguished Arizona artists, arts organizations, businesses, educators and individuals for their passion, creativity and devotion to the excellence and diversity of Arizona’s arts and cultural community. The Governor’s Arts Awards event is much more than a tradition. The awards reflect more than three decades of the best in Arizona’s arts and culture community and the magnificent contributions they’ve made to our state’s arts and cultural heritage.

Nominations for the Governor’s Arts Awards are accepted for about six weeks in the fall of each year in the following categories: Artist, Arts in Education (Individual and Org/School), Small Business, Large Business, Community, Philanthropy, and Individual. Nominees are announced in early winter, followed by a special reception in honor of all nominees at which three finalists in each category are announced, along with the Philanthropist Award honoree and the Shelley Award honoree. The Governor’s Arts Awards dinner is then held in early spring where category winners are presented with awards; in order to celebrate local artistry in Arizona, winners are awarded with a work of art as unique as their accomplishments. This is a Call for Art for the 2019 Awards.

The selected artworks will celebrate artistry, culture and unique characteristics of Arizona, its artists and artforms, as the artist sees them. Works can be either 2D or 3D, and while there are no specific size or medium restrictions, submissions must be easy to hold or carry and transport, as the artworks will be handed to the recipient during a stage presentation at the Governor’s Arts Awards Dinner and Gala.

What is Artlink?
Artlink keeps the arts integral to the development of our city by connecting artists, business and community. Artlink supports a variety of community-based art events, including complimentary Trolley Tours during the monthly First Friday Art Walk, one of the nation’s largest self-guided art walks; a pop-up gallery program; and the annual Juried Exhibition, Art Detour, and Art d’Core Gala. For more information and to register as an Articipant: click here.

What is ArtistsAZ? is Artlink’s newest mega resource— a statewide directory for connecting artists, business and community. It’s powered by Phoenix Urban Guide (PUG), the same powerful info hub that populates the Directory on the Artlink site. Think of as a search engine specifically for community members who are trying to find local creative talent; they can peruse the whole directory, type in a specific search, or narrow their search results by a select group of categories/tags.

You must also be able to provide a high resolution, professional image of selected artwork suitable for use in Notecards, in the Evening On-Screen Presentation and Paper Program, and be amenable to the terms of this Rights & Reproductions Agreement.

Step 1: Log in to your Articipant Dashboard via PUG and check that your profile contains your current contact information (both email and telephone), a short biography and your artist statement.

Step 2: Upload images of any currently available works that are well-suited to this project, considering the necessary portability as well as conceptual and tonal criteria. Using the “Edit Form” button, be sure to label your images with the following information, in the suggested format—

  • AZ Gov Awards Call 2019, “Title”, Medium, Dimensions, Price.

—along with a brief statement about the work itself to be potentially included on the website and in the evening’s program.

Step 3: *IMPORTANT* Add “AZ Gov Awards Call 2019” to your list of profile tags (must be exact spelling and spacing). This is integral to making your profile visible to Selection Call panelists.

Step 4 (Final Step): Complete this VERIFICATION FORM to finalize your submission.

Arizona Citizens for the Arts (ACA) and its affiliates reserve the right to engage another process for this selection should there prove to be an inadequate number of entrants or appropriate options. As well, please ensure that the image of your submission accurately represent the artwork itself (true to color, condition, content, framing/finishing, and the like), as ACA also reserves the right to decline works upon delivery or “at first sight”, in their sole discretion. Thank you for your understanding.
